The Knowledge Residential · the timetable

Fourteen days, hour by hour.

The shape of the day is fixed and the prayers set it. Below is a typical Monday-to-Friday and what the two weekends can include.

The oued — the river ridge — looking out of Tighmert towards the desert.
The day begins at Fajr, around 05:15.

Prayer times shift through the year, and the timetable shifts with them. The rhythm stays the same; the exact clock times for your block may vary slightly by date.

What each subject in the timetable covers

Prayer

The five prayers set the timetable.

Everything else is arranged around them rather than the other way round.

  • Fajr 05:15 Followed by the morning adhkar and first breakfast
  • Dhuhr 13:00 Then lunch and qaylulah
  • Asr 15:40 Then free time until Maghrib
  • Maghrib 17:45 Evening adhkar and dinner follow
  • Isha 19:15 Then the final sitting until 22:00

Congregational prayer is the fixed point of every day. Everything else — classes, meals, rest and free time — is arranged in the gaps between the five.

Two weekends

Time away from the oasis.

Both weekends of each block include time away from Tighmert. Which of the below happens on which weekend, and in what order, is set by the organiser for that block — only the closing braai is the same every time.

An evening out

An evening in Guelmim

A short evening out after a week of study.

The overnight excursion

The coast at Sidi Ourzeg

The principal shared experience of the fortnight: a private-hire bus from Tighmert to the coast, and a night camped by the sea.

A day trip

A day trip to Sidi Ifni

A day on the Atlantic coast at Sidi Ifni, returning through Guelmim.

The closing day

Fask, Taghjijt and the closing braai

Breakfast under the fan palms, prehistoric rock art, and — whatever else the weekend has included — the same farewell every block ends with.

What each of these involves, in full

Tents set up at the beach camp at Sidi Ourzeg.
